Lloyds Bank under pressure to bring in a four-day week

Trade unions are urging Lloyds Bank to become by far the biggest employer yet to introduce a four-day working week without cutting salaries.

The bank has been asked to make the move as part of annual pay negotiations with unions Accord and Unite.

Digital lender Atom Bank became one of the largest employers in Britain to introduce a four-day workweek in November.

The bank’s staff now largely work between Monday and Thursday. The Durham-based lender has 430 employees. Staff working hours have been cut from 37.5 to 34 hours per week.

Lloyds, which has 65,000 employees, has been asked to follow suit after its chief executive Charlie Nunn pledged to support “families and work-life balance”.

Accord and Unite have also argued it was the right time to consider a four-day working week because the Scottish Government said it would trial the policy.
